Jagmeet Singh Brar, Congress' Goa desk in-charge at AICC is in Goa to attend a coordination committee meeting of all coalition partners, which will decide on the crucial issue of pre-poll alliance.
The Congress today maintained it wants to face next year's assembly elections in Goa with their current alliance partners Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
The party, heading the ruling coalition, is of the opinion that the Congress- NCP-MGP alliance "should go further during the forthcoming Goa elections", Jagmeet Singh Brar, Congress' Goa desk in-charge at AICC, told reporters in Panaji.
Brar, along with All-India Congress Committee Secretary Sudhakar Reddy, is in Goa to attend a coordination committee meeting of all coalition partners, which will decide on the crucial issue of pre-poll alliance.
The Sonia Gandhi-led party had fought the 2007 Goa Assembly polls in tie-up with Sharad Pawar's NCP. MGP, a regional outfit, had contested on its own and joined the Congress-led government at a later stage.
Brar conceded there were some glitches in forging pre-poll alliance due to delimitation of the assembly constituencies. "We will sit and sort out the things."
State Congress leader Mauvin Godinho had yesterday asserted the party was confident of a clear majority in the 40 -member Assembly if it contested the polls on its own.
The Congress, in the meantime, has short-listed names of candidates for half of the total constituencies. Brar said 20 names have been shortlisted and they will be announced after they are vetted by the party high command.
There is no dispute with the allies over the segments for which nominees have been short-listed and they consist of some sitting MLAs and a few senior Congress members, he added.
Term of the Goa Assembly ends in June.
