Congress General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad held hectic consultations with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha for the second day today on the strategy to be adopted for the polls.
After a marathon three-hour meeting today, Satyanarayana told reporters that the discussions mainly focussed on strengthening the organisation and filling the vacant posts at district and local levels.
18 Assembly constituencies, including one in Telangana, will go to polls in the next few months after 16 Congress MLAs were disqualified following their vote against government during a no-confidence motion last December. Two legislators have resigned.
Congress is working hard on its strategy following successive defeats in by-elections for the past two years, especially the recent drubbing in the Telangana and coastal Andhra regions.
While its defeat in Telangana was apparently due to its non-decision on Telangana, YS Jaganmohan Reddy's YSR Congress won the one seat that went to by-polls in coastal Andhra region.
"The discussions were on filling up the vacancies at local levels. We discussed about the by-elections as well. There is a system in the Congress when it comes to selection of candidates. The candidates will be finalised soon," the PCC chief said.
He also dismissed Jagan's allegations that he was being targeted, saying the CBI was doing its duty.
Asked whether the Congress admits that the YSR Government was a 'corrupt' one, he said: "How I can admit? It was a fair government."
