The ruling Congress and main opposition Telugu Desam Party have given a go by to public issues and were only trying to score political points over each other in the assembly, Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi alleged here today.

"The ruling party and the main opposition have degraded the Assembly. They are more interested in scoring political points than burning public issues like long power cuts and water shortage," he told reporters.

"The power situation in the rural and semi-urban areas is so bad that they are having power cuts for eight to nine hours. Such important issues are not discussed," he said.

Chiranjeevi recently held a protest at the headquarters of the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) and Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) in Hyderabad.

He also alleged that his party was not getting adequate time to speak as the Congress and TDP wasted time in trying outsmart each other.
