Congress says Mayawati wrong person to talk about corruption

"Those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others."

This was Congress' message to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati who had dubbed the party as "mother of corruption" in the country.

Party general secretary Digvijay Singh told reporters that it will be better, if Mayawati does not talk of corruption as she is among those chief ministers against whom case is on in Supreme Court about disproportionate assets.

"Since Mayawati has become active in politics till today she has accumulated enormous assets through open corruption," alleged Singh, who is in-charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh.

Besides Mayawati, the former chief minister against whom disproportionate assets case pending is Mulayam Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party.

Alleging that her rule has seen worsening of the law and order situation, Singh wondered as to why the chief minister was apprehensive to launch a judicial enquiry into the Bhatta Parsaul incident.

His statement came close on the heels of Mayawati launching a scathing attack on Congress and BJP on the issue of land acquisition, saying farmers in states ruled by the two parties were agitated over poor compensation.

Addressing BSP workers from Delhi at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, the BSP chief alleged that Congress is considered as the "mother of corruption" in the country.
