Congress general secretary, Digvijay Singh and BJP Madhya Pradesh unit president, Prabhat Jha are now engaged in a bitter exchange of words.

The exchange of words began with Jha saying, sometime back, in Indore that it would be an insult to Ravan to compare him (Ravan) with veteran Congress leader, Arjun Singh who was the Madhya Pradesh chief minister at the time of the Bhopal gas disaster of December 1984.

Jha said this, according to him, Arjun Singh had allowed the main accused of the Bhopal gas disaster case, Warren Anderson to leave the country.

Digvijay Singh, on his return from the USA, responded to this by saying that Jha lacks the "aukaat" needed by him to say anything about Arjun Singh.

And as Jha was born in Bihar, the Conress general secretary described him as an outsider for Madhya Pradesh who had been thrust upon the heads of BJP leaders in Bhopal.

Jha responded to this by writing a letter to Singh in which he admitted that he was an outsider for Madhya Pradesh but asked Singh to point out from where the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi had come. The Congress general secretary in a letter written to Jha, that was released to the press yesterday, hit back strongly at the Madhya Pradesh BJP president.

Singh said that he knew Jha since the 1980s when he was a journalist and had tried to meet the then Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Arjun Singh to get done his personal works.

Singh said that there was no need for Jha to be miffed with the use of the word "aukaat" which is an Urdu word which means "Kshamtaa" in Hindi and "capacity" in Urdu.

Singh said he was astonished that Jha had been made the BJP Madhya Pradesh unit president by overlooking the claim of senior leader, Sumitra Mahajan and others.

He said that Jha had described Arjun Singh as a father figure and if this was so, why the BJP state president describe him as a Ravan.
