The Congress party is trying to play down the rift between its close ally Trinamool Congress (TMC) saying it is open to having a UPA co-ordination committee, a suggestion mooted by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

“There may be disagreements between both parties but these are part of a coalition politics. We will be able to solve this problem by discussions. I do not think this is a serious issue,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

With assembly elections round the corner in some of the important states, the Congress is not keen to send a message of a crumbling setup at the Centre. Hence, the party is denying any tension between TMC-Congress. However, the two parties are not on same table on many important policy matters. Singhvi added that the channels of communication have not been broken down between the two allies.
