Habitually surrounded by trouble due to internal politics, the Congress in Surat once again finds itself in a tough spot.

The new three-storied party office at Kadarshah ni naal is up for sale. And the building is being sold by none other than one of the top party leaders in Surat.

The reason being cited is that the party is not clearing the building's loan amount since a long time. While the office is always top priority for any political party, Congress' Chandravadan Pithawala is ironically trying to sell it off.

Pithawala is the president of the committee formed by the Congress to execute the procedure of purchase and to handle its monetary affairs. He is even shown as the owner of the building in its purchase documents. Pithawala alleges that the party has not been clearing dues, pending since
the last six years. The price of the building was fixed at Rs1 crore, of which Rs50 lakh were to be paid by the Gujarat Pradesh Congress

Committee (GPCC), while the rest was to be collected from party workers through donation.
“GPCC never paid its share and came up with excuses each time.

The owner of the building is demanding the remaining amount, while party workers who contributed feel that they have been duped.

Despite repeated reminders, the state high command is least interested in solving the issue. So I decided to sell the property and return everybody's money,” Pithwala said in a telephonic conversation from London.

Meanwhile, Surat Congress president Shambu Patel said that GPCC is ready to pay the full amount of the construction of the office.

“GPCC has managed the entire cost of the building. Apart from Pithawala, the party is also ready to pay those who contributed to it at that time. Allegations that the party's leaders are not interested in clearing dues, are false,” Patel added.

A few party leaders alleged that Pithawala was cooking up the issue, considering that the civic elections are due this year. They alleged that Pithawala has been sidelined by the GPCC and this is his way of taking revenge. Many of Pithawala's supporters were not given due positions in various party committees, which angered him, they say.
