Congress MLA Amarsinh Vasava and several other party workers, including women, were detained today after they took out a rally against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

They accused Modi of trying to exploiting the tribals by organising `Garib kalyan mela' (welfare camp for the poor) in Dediapada town, about 150 km from here today.

Vasava described as "farce", Modi's claim of disbursing financial assistance of Rs100 crore to 60,000 tribals in one day at the event. The opposition legislator described the event as a "drama".

Vasava and other party workers shouted slogans denouncing what they said exploitation of the tribals. They were detained by the police before they could reach the venue of the mela where Modi addressed a large gathering.

Speaking at the gathering, Modi he is the only chief minister to have visited Dedipada 20 times to address the problems being faced by the tribals.
