Congress keeps mum over Indo-Pak joint statement

Congress today kept mum over the Indo-Pak joint statement, which the Opposition has attacked. "The party is not going to give any reaction on the issue. It is for the government to say on this matter," a senior party leader said here.
       
Asked why the party is shying away from making a statement on an issue concerning its own government, the leader said, "the government is of UPA and not only of Congress."
       
Party leaders are maintaining silence on the issue after prime minister Manmohan Singh made a statement in Parliament yesterday after his return from Egypt. Meanwhile sources said Congress is treading cautiously on the issue as it is "sensitive" and could create troubles for the party during the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra in wake of the 26/11 Mumbai attack giving the opposition a poll issue.
