Congress demands appointment of Lokayukta in AMC

The Opposition party, on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to Governor Dr Kamla complaining about corruption in the civic body.
During the 45-minute meeting with the governor, Congress members demanded the appointment of an enquiry committee,

Lokyukta or chief vigilance commissioner in AMC. They also complained about several issues ranging from tenders to Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), to door-to-dump, among others.
Leader of Opposition Badruddin Shaikh, city Congress president Pankaj Shukla, ex-mayor Himmatsingh Patel, ex-leader of

Opposition Surendra Baxi and others met the governor and were given a chance to speak before her.

Shaikh told the governor that the AMC tender specifications are modified according to the contractor's demands. Also, the contractors of door-to-dump activity are not penalised and the penalty guidelines are modified.

The governor asked Congress members why the AMC's audit and vigilance department are not taking care of these issues. Shaikh said that not only corruption, but payment is made twice in Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services (AMTS). This episode came to light recently.
