The state assembly witnessed stormy scenes even on the second day on Thursday over the hooch tragedy of Ahmedabad when the opposition Congress MLAs started shouting anti-government slogans — ‘Latthana haptha kone lidha? Modi-Amit, Modi Amit! (Who took bribes for hooch? Modi-Amit Modi-Amit) - as soon as the House assembled for the session at 12 noon.

Congress kept ranting anti-Modi, anti-Shah slogans for about 20 minutes while demanding at least two hours of discussion in the House on the hooch tragedy.

Congress MLAs demanded sacking of minister of state for home, Amit Shah, and taking away charge of home department from chief minister Narendra Modi.

Speaker of assembly, Ashok Bhatt, requested the leader of opposition, Shaktisinh Gohil and the other Congress MLAs to stop shouting slogans and allow the House to proceed on other issues, but it all fell on deaf ears.

The Congress MLAs continued to ignore him which led him to order the sergeants to escort them out of the House. However, the Congress MLAs tried to resist the move and kept raising slogans till they had to be forcibly evacuated.

In the ensuing melee some microphones were broken. Bhatt said that the MLAs who had broken the microphones will have to pay for the damages. After this, Bhatt suspended all the Congress MLAs including the leader of opposition for the entire day.

Demanding Amit Shah’s resignation on moral grounds, Gohil told the media, “Amit Shah has mislead the House by giving out a false statement that people had died consuming the spurious liquor at a party arranged by one person.

Actually, Shah created this story to save BJP corporator, Rasik Dhola Sondha Parmar, of Mahemdavad municipality, who had supplied the entire quantity of spurious liquor.” Gohil further said.

“At that time of such a similar incident during the then home minister, Popatlal Vyas’ regime, the minister himself resigned on moral grounds. We expect the same from Modi and Shah too, but they do not have such morals,” he claimed.

However, Modi and Amit Shah refrained from making any statements on the issue during the whole day.
