The Congress on Wednesday expelled from its primary membership two party members including a former legislator on grounds of alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

Chairman of Disciplinary Action Committee of the Congress Ram Krishna Dwivedi expelled V M Singh of Pilibhit and Narendra Singh Bhadauria of Lakhimpur Kheri for six years, party spokesman Virendra Madan said.

Singh, a former MLA, had refused Congress ticket from Barkhera seat and is in the fray in the UP Assembly polls as Trinamool Congress candidate.

"Congress never backed me up when the Mayawati government and even the Railways slapped fake cases against me. If I am a criminal in their eyes, then there is no point in contesting the polls under Congress banner," Singh had stated.
