Describing Congress as a divided house where leaders speak in different voices over important issues including corruption, the BJP today said having such a party at the helm is detrimental for the country.
"Congress is a divided party where the Union Minister P Chidambaram and General Secretary Digvijay Singh speak different languages and on corruption issue there have been differences in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO)," BJP leader Uma Bharti told reporters here before starting her campaign for the assembly polls in Punjab.
She said having a party in power which is divided over important issues like corruption can only "harm the interests of the nation."
Bharti said on the issue of corruption, every poltical party's credibility is at stake.
"In the past few months there has been a social movement against corruption," she said, adding, the Congress had been using uncontrolled language on the issue.
Taking a dig at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for calling her an outsider in UP polls as she was from MP, she said, "Rahul had forgotten that his family too moved out of Delhi to win polls in UP."
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, who has been fielded as a candidate in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, said rampant corruption and crime are the prime issues there and the party with a clean image will emerge victorious.
She said the BJP will go it alone in UP and not forge pre or post poll alliance with any political party.
She claimed the BJP's record is clear on the issue of corruption and the party will follow it in states where it comes to power.
Bharti, who returned to BJP after a gap of five years, said she was not averse to Mulayam Singh led Samajwadi Party providing laptops to people. However, she said she would like to know from where the SP will arrange the budget for the porpuse.
She accused the Centre of having given so much money to the elephant (BSP's poll symbol) to allure the party for a pre-poll alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
She said the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab would break the myth that no incumbent government repeats its term in the state.
"This (repetition of government has taken place in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Gujarat) myth had already been broken in the case of certain states," she said.
She said corruption is the biggest challenge before the country and already a social movememt had been launched against it.
