Community policing began in Maoist affected areas of Ghatsila sub-division today even as the anti-Maoist operation in Jharkhand continued for the sixth day without much success.

A separate police team were engaged in community policing which included meeting with villagers to understand their problems and providing them medicines, clothes, toys etc, he said.
Meanwhile, sources in the police headquarters refused to comment on reports of movement of forces in new areas like Chatra, Latehar and Palamau as part of internal operations.
"We will let you know when it happens," they said.
Asked about reports that the Maoists were killing stray dogs so that their barks could not alert policemen, Ghatshila SDPO Anup Birtheray said the personnel did not find any caracass of dogs during their combing operations.
He also denied any knowledge about any instruction given to the personnel not to drink water randomly for fear of poisoning by the Maoists.
A senior central intelligence officers, meanwhile, expressed happiness over the 'cooperation' by the Jharkhand police in the anti-naxal operations.
"Earlier, the state police use to push the CRPF personnel forward in hostile terrains while they themselves stayed behind. Now it is good to see the coordinated effort against the Maoists by both the state police and the CRPF," he told PTI.
"Only with a coordinated effort can we taste success," he said.
Senior CRPF officials met state police officers three days ago and had discussed on the ongoing stepped up anti-naxal operations.
The para-military forces have taken adequate quantity of medicines, mosquito repellents and food to last for a long period, he added.
"The naxalites' strength could be guaged only when operations in Palamau, Chatra, Latehar and Garhwa begins," the officer said.
Twenty out of the 24 districts in Jharkhand are Maoist affected, with Palamau division alone having as many as six naxal outfits.
