Community clash over land dispute in Punjab; 1 dead, 7 hurt

A clash between two communities involving a land dispute in the district today left a man dead and at least seven persons injured, police said.

Majatri villager Harnek Singh, 60, was stoned to death while his family members Garza Singh, Avtar Singh, Gurnam Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Charan Singh, Malkiat Singh and Karamjeet Kaur sustained multiple injuries, police said.

Following the clash, tension prevails in the village with both communities up in arms against each other.

The deceased was cremated amid heavy police deployment in the village.

Police have booked 12 people in the matter.
