Coming soon: RTI's success story on your TV

While some of its senior ministers rue over the ‘misuse’ of RTI, the Centre has decided to take the success of the transparency law to the common man’s living room.

A television serial, based on the common man’s success stories achieved through RTI, is being planned in co-ordination with Doordarshan. The show is being planned by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Centre’s nodal department for handling RTI related matters.

“No doubt there are a few cases of misuse of RTIs. But when compared to the success the RTI has achieved in the last six years, the former stands nowhere. There are innumerable stories where use of RTI has solved the common man’s problems,” a senior DoPT official told DNA.

“The RTI has ushered in a new era of transparency in the last six years. However, it has still not reached the people living in the most distant or rural areas,” said the official, adding that they are already using advertisements on radio and television to sensitize people about the RTI. “This serial would be over and above all those efforts, as half minute ads  won’t be sufficient in creating awareness. It would also educate people about the methods of using the RTI,” the official added.
