The capital’s satellite town, Gurgaon, will soon have its own answer to Paris’s Moulin Rouge, London’s West End and New York’s Broadway. The Kingdom of Dreams — India’s first live entertainment and leisure hub — is going to open in May.

The Kingdom will have three distinct domains — Culture Gully, Nautanki Mahal, and Showshaa Theatre. Nautanki Mahal will be India’s first state-of-the-art, futuristic 848-seat auditorium. It will have several daily shows by theatre artists as well as Bollywood actors. Culture Gully, an air-conditioned boulevard spreading across 90,000 square feet, will see more than 350 chefs from around the country coming together to display their culinary skills. The Gully will have several bars serving alcoholic beverages, tea and coffee to visitors.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Hooda said about the upcoming project: “This is yet another feather in Gurgaon’s cap.”

The Kingdom will also have a Patli Gully [Narrow Alley]. It will be a spiritual walk featuring a massive 110-foot sleeping Buddha along with murals and engravings that will bring to life the pantheon of Indian gods.

The Showshaa, a dome-shaped amphitheatre, will show Ram Lila and Krishna Lila. It will also be home to ‘The Big Fat Indian Wedding Show’, a choreographed mock marriage musical where spectators will be able to dress as bridal couples and take back filmed memories.

“It’s very exciting to be associated with the Kingdom of Dreams. I only wish the promoters create a replica in Mumbai as well,” Javed Akhtar, noted lyricist and writer said. “Residents of Gurgaon, Delhi and Noida will no longer be content watching TV or going to the multiplexes when they can actually watch their favourite stars perform live,” said Anumod Sharma, chairman, Apra Group of Companies. His firm has a 50% stake in the venture.
