Coimbatore police has taken four people into its custody for beating a man to death on a busy road on Sunday.

A gang of four hit a man with a two-wheeler, threw him to the ground and then repeatedly kicked him and hit him with stones till he died.

According to the video shown, two men, who were standing on the road deliberately came in the way of a motorcyclist, who lost his balance and fell on the road.

Meanwhile, two others joined and the four assaulted the victim together.

Scores of people on two-wheelers and other vehicles stood by and watched. Those, who were in a hurry, even drove away.

"The people there should have tried to stop (the killers). It is a sorry to state that none came forward to help the boy (who died)," said Coimbatore deputy commissioner of police (DCP) S Nijamuddin.

According to the police, the attackers, who were reportedly drunk, and the victim had apparently had a brawl at a wine shop before the incident.
