With less than 13 months left for the Commonwealth Games 2010 to begin, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the government was “nervous” about the preparations. Dikshit’s admission comes a day after Commonwealth Games Federation president Michael Fennel asked PM Manmohan Singh to intervene in the preparations.

“We are satisfied and also nervous about the preparations for the prestigious event,” she said. When asked about Fennel seeking Singh’s intervention to put things in order, she said, “He has every right to meet Singh. Fennel had met me a month ago and conveyed his concern about the power situation. I told him we’ll have adequate power supply during the event.”

Commenting on the CAG report which pointed out loopholes in the preparation for the games and criticised the infrastructure work Dikshit said, “CAG has the right to criticise. But we are working very hard and are looking at all the alternatives. We’ll do everything to make it a success.”

Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi promised on Monday to arrange a meeting between Fennell and Singh. “Most of the issues have been addressed. I’ll be happy to arrange a meeting between Fennell and Singh to clear all the doubts,” he said, adding, “The CM and sports minister MS Gill are supporting the games. The venues will be ready on time.”
