Chief minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for greater centre-state coordination and involvement of private hospitals to control the spread of the swine flu (H1N1) virus in Gujarat.

He was speaking at an all-party meeting held at Gandhinagar circuit house on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Shaktisinh Gohil, leader of Opposition (LOP) in the assembly and senior state Congress leader, Sidharath Patel, state Congress president, Purshottam Rupala, state BJP president, Jayanti Barot, state general secretary, Jaynarayan Vyas, health minister, Anandiben Patel, revenue minister, Amit Shah, minister of state for Home, Arun Mehta of Marxist Communist Party, Naresh Acharaya of Bahujan Samajvadi Party and others.

Modi said the centre should also involve private hospitals, which can help in treating and testing suspected swine flue cases in Gujarat.

He said there was also a need to focus on spreading awareness about the disease.
"Parents and teachers need to be made aware. We will try to bring more awareness about the disease rather than banning fairs and other public celebrations," he said.

"Both the centre and the state have taken a series of preventive steps. The state government has also established a taskforce for the same," Modi said.

Shaktisinh Gohil said the centre was extending all support to the state in its fight against swine flu.

"The centre has appointed the tourism minister as the in-charge minister for Gujarat to tackle the spread of swine flu in the state. We need to restrict the scale of festivals like Navratri and avoid inviting foreigners and NRIs to the state for this year so as to help control the disease," said Gohil.

"I have also requested the health minister to spread awareness about Ayurveda as it is useful in preventing the disease,'' he said.

The Gujarat health department in a statement said the state has at present a total of 13 positive cases of swine flu and another 84 are suspected to be carrying the H1N1 virus.
Of the confirmed cases, 11 are being treated at the Civil hospital in Ahmedabad and two others are admitted at the government run SSG Hospital in Vadodara.
