Chief of naval operations of US navy on 6 day visit to India

Admiral Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations of the United States Navy, is visiting India from April 11 to 16 on the invitation of Admiral Nirmal Verma, chief of naval staff.

Admiral Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations of the United States Navy, is visiting India from April 11 to 16 on the invitation of Admiral Nirmal Verma, chief of naval staff.

During his stay in New Delhi, Admiral Roughead will have discussions with Admiral Verma and make courtesy calls on
defence minister A K Anthony, chief of Air Staff Air Chief
Marshal P V Naik, chief of army staff general V K Singh and
Pradeep Kumar, defence secretary.

Admiral Roughead will also visit various naval ships and establishments in Mumbai and Goa and some training
establishments in Kochi, according to an official release.

Since 1995, naval cooperation between the two navies has been growing steadily. Consistent navy-to-navy engagement has led to both navies recognising and respecting each other's competencies with mutual trust and confidence.

Besides exploring ways to enhance the navy-to-navy interaction, areas of common interest will be discussed. 

Even as the two chiefs meet, the next edition of the MALABAR series of exercises is scheduled from April 23 to May 2 and four capital warships and one submarine and a few aircraft from each side are scheduled to participate.
