Chidambaram to arrive tomorrow on two-day visit to West Bengal

The Union home minister will leave for Lalgarh on Sunday morning by helicopter and return to the NSC Bose International Airport before leaving for Chennai.

Union home minister P Chidambaram is scheduled to reach here tomorrow from Itanagar on a two-day visit to West Bengal's Maoist-hit Lalgarh and Mangalkote which witnessed violence between activists of CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress.

"The detailed schedule is, however, yet to be confirmed. He was earlier scheduled to hold a meeting with chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee tomorrow and visit Burdwan and Lalgarh in West Midnapore district the next day," chief secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty said.

To a question about Chidambaram's visit to Mangalkote, Chakraborty said "we were told about his visit to Burdwan but I don't know if he will visit Mangalkote."

He will leave for Lalgarh on Sunday morning by helicopter and return to the NSC Bose International Airport before leaving for Chennai.

Union additional home secretary DS Chowdhury, Union joint secretary (home) and director general of the CRPF would accompany Chidambaram besides state home secretary Ardhendu Sen and DGP Bhupinder Singh.
