Chidambaram has not said enough to criticise Bengal govt: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today dubbed as "not enough" the Union home minister P Chidambaram's criticism of West Bengal government's alleged inadequacy on the law and order front.

"He has not said enough. He should have said more," Banerjee told newsmen here before leaving for Delhi.

Claiming that law and order in the state had completely broken down, the railway minister alleged that alongside the anti-Maoist 'Operation Green Hunt' the CPI(M) had unleashed an  'Operation Red Hunt' by attacking her party workers with the police and the administration.

"The Maoists cannot be eradicated. They and the Marxists are the two sides of the same coin," she alleged. 

Reiterating her party's demand for President's rule in the state under Article 356, she said, "During my earlier interactions with Chidambaramji, I got the impression that he has enough evidence to put the state under President's rule 10 times over."

Chidambaram, who visited naxal-infested Lalgarh in West Bengal today to review the situation there, told reporters that the buck stops at the chief minister's table and he should take "stern measures" so that law and order is maintained in the state.

The Union home minister also said he carried a "mixed impression" about state government's role in the anti-Naxal
operations and there were "good and weak points".
