Charges to be framed in Ahmedabad blasts on Monday

A total of 66 charge-sheets - including 22 main - were filed against the accused by the crime branch. Gujarat police have so far arrested 62 people in the case.

The designated court of sessions judge Bela Trivedi is expected to frame charges in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case of 2008 on Monday.  Multiple blasts rocked the city on July 26, 2008, killing 56 people. 

A total of 66 charge-sheets - including 22 main - were filed against the accused by the crime branch. Gujarat police have so far arrested  62 people in the case.

More than 22 people including Abdul Subhan alias Tauqeer, Amir Raza Khan, Iqbal and Riyaz Bhatkal are still absconding. 

The state police had said that the blast in Ahmedabad and recovery of bombs in Surat were the handiwork of Indian Mujahideen (IM), a wing of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India (Simi) and Harkat-Ul-Jehadi-Islami (Huji).

The accused in the case belong to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, besides Gujarat. Some of the high-profile accused include Safdar Nagori, Sajid Mansuri, Sibli, Nasir Raziuddin and Qayamuddin Kapadaia.
