Chako murder: Godhra police arrest accused

The Godhra police arrested Raj Gangvani alias Anthony, the accused in the Alpesh Chako murder case in Anand and Harish Jagyasi firing case in Vadodara.

The Godhra police arrested Raj Gangvani alias Anthony, the accused in the Alpesh Chako murder case in Anand and Harish Jagyasi firing case in Vadodara, on Sunday night. He was arrested near the Power house at Godhra. The police have recovered a countrymade revolver and bullets from him.

In a successful operation conducted by Godhra police, the police arrested Gangvani after they got the information that he had come to Godhra to meet his sister. The police officials had set up a close watch in various areas of the city.

Meanwhile, police officials including PI NV Desai along with other officials were present at the Power house area near Ganesh Bakery. When they saw a man suspiciously moving in the area, they stopped him and interrogated. They recovered a bottle of beer, a loaded country-made revolver along with bullets. On investigations, he gave his identity as Anil alias Anthony alias Raj Gangwani.

On further investigations, he admitted his involvement in the Alpesh Chako murder case of Anand before five months. He also admitted that Vijay Sindhi, Omi, Riyaz alias Chottu belonged to his gang.

Talking to DNA, PI NV Desai of Godhra police said, "Raj Gangwani alias Anthony was involved in the firing on Vadodara-based builder Harish Jagyasi at the Alkapuri area before four months. He was also involved in attack on Kalo, at Warasia area of Vadodara 18 months ago. He is one of the prime accused in the BJP councilor Alpesh Chako murder case."
