Three cases of senior citizens being robbed of chains worth Rs78,000 were reported in the Ahmedabad within 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday.
In the latest incident, two bike-borne men snatched away a gold chain of Nirmala Trivedi, 67, a resident of Ojas Apartments, Nehrunagar on Wednesday morning.
"My husband and I were returning home after a jogging session when two men on a motorcycle snatched my chain worth Rs30,000 and sped away," Trivedi stated in her complaint filed with Satellite police.
The incident happened near Trivedi's house at 6:15am. Trivedi further said that the looters were aged between 25 years and 30 years of age.
At 8:30pm on Tuesday, robbers targeted Pushpa Darji, 59, a resident of Satkar Apartment, Judges Bungalow Road, Satellite and snatched away her chain worth Rs30,000.
"While I was sitting on a bench in my society, a man came and snatched away my gold chain and ran away with another man who was waiting for him on a bike," Darji stated in her complaint lodged with Vastrapur police.
Interestingly, the chain-snatchers, who were aged between 25 years and 30 years according to Darji's complaint, had been camping in front of the bench the victim was sitting on, for an hour before striking.
They had also been sighted by three other women who were sitting with Darji. However, all of them had left before the men employed their trick.
Another woman in Paldi also lost her gold chain worth Rs18,000 to chain-snatchers at 7:30am on Tuesday. Ellisbridge police said that Lalita Sindhi, 57, a resident of Avishkar society, Paldi was targeted by two men on a bike near Mahalaxmi Crossroads.
"I was returning from Derasar when two youth on a motorcycle snatched my chain and sped away," she said.
