Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has moved a step closer to provide permanent security to the 300-year-old chabutara located near the Gujari Bazar in Ellisbridge. The issue of the chabutara's security was discussed with the municipal commissioner.
According to the deputy municipal commissioner Capt Dilip Mahajan, the issue was discussed with the municipal commissioner few days ago. "We have already sent the details about the chabutara to the municipal commissioner IP Gautam for his review. He will take a final call on the issue," said Mahajan.
After the mysterious recovery of five figurines, that were stolen from the 300-year-old chabutara, the issue of providing security to heritage monuments has become a matter of concern for the city.
The top officials of AMC had promised to provide permanent and secure location to the chabutara a month ago. However, nothing was done in the matter as the municipal commissioner was on leave for almost a month.
Earlier, Mahajan had assured that the security of the chabutara will be on top of their priority list. He had also assured that they will take all necessary action to preserve the heritage monument.
After the recovery of five figurines, another top official came up with the option of shifting the chabutara to a museum like Sanskar Kendra, to provide permanent security to the monument.
AMC's heritage committee chairperson Bijal Patel also assured similar action. "There is a high possibility of the chabutara getting stolen once again, so I have already discussed the matter with the DyMC who has forwarded the matter for the commissioner's approval," said Patel. The chabutara located near the Ramwadi area near Ellisbridge came into limelight after reports about the theft of 6 figurines in May.
After the reports in DNA, AMC's heritage committee took into account the importance of this historical monument.
