Based on specific intelligence inputs, the centre has asked Assam and neighbouring states of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya to be on high alert in the run-up to the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) Raising Day on April 7.

The anti-talks faction of ULFA, led by its on-the-run commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah, has passed on a message to his loyal cadres to carry out the attacks.

Top level sources said Paresh Baruah has given specific inputs on who has been asked to do what, adding that cities like Dibrugarh and Goalpara are high on ULFA’s target.

Baruah is believed to be directing his loyal cadres from a hideout in the jungles of northern Mynamar near China border.

“The Centre has inputs that anti-talk factions of ULFA may try to create blockades, law and order situations in the area, as their leaders have directed their cadres to execute plans to create disturbances,” said Ira Joshi, spokesperson for the ministry of home affairs.
