Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal today said the Centre has been urged to increase the gross budgetary support for the Railways under the 12th Plan.
The budgetary support for the Railways was Rs20,000 crore this year, he said.
"We have 149 projects in the pipeline and progress depends on the quantum of budgetary support we receive," he told reporters after a meeting of the Railway Board at the Eastern Railway headquarters here.
Mittal said that the Railways was trying to reach the freight target of Rs68,000 crore.
He told a questioner that the Railways was working out how to provide a level playing field for the private partner under the PPP model.
The Pitroda committee report for restructuring and revenue generation avenues for the railways, he said, were still awaited.
Mittal said the Railway Board was looking for a partner for the joint venture project to build a coach factory at Kanchrapara in West Bengal.
