The Centre today said it will examine the causes of the collapse of an under-construction bridge of the Delhi Metro in the national capital which claimed the lives of five persons.

"Our department will take a review and find out the causes. This is a very unfortunate incident," minister of State for urban development Saugata Ray told reporters here.

He said all precaution will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

Five persons, including an engineer, were killed and 15 others injured when the under-construction over-bridge collapsed near Lady Sriram College in Jamrudpur in Lajpat Nagar at around 5 am.

The accident took place as one of the pillars of the bridge gave in when a launcher was being erected.

In a similar incident on October 19 last year, two persons were killed and 16 others injured when a portion of an under-construction bridge of the Metro collapsed and fell on a bus on Vikas Marg in Lakshmi Nagar in east Delhi.
