Observing that separate Telangana demand had a direct bearing on West Bengal, the chief minister said there were demands for Gorkhaland, Kamtapur and Greater Coochbehar in the hilly areas of the state.
The Centre may not take any action on the Telangana till a consensus was developed among political parties on the issue, West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.
"Government is starting a process of dialogue and consultation with all stakeholders ... to build a consensus. Until then, they will not take any action," Bhattacharjee, who met prime minister Manmohan Singh here, told reporters.
"I gathered from the prime minister that the government is seriously trying to hold consultations with all parties in the state as well as at the national level," he said.
Observing that separate Telangana demand had a direct bearing on West Bengal, he said there were demands for Gorkhaland, Kamtapur and Greater Coochbehar in the hilly areas of the state.
"So I wanted to know from the prime minister what the Centre was doing to check this unrest (in Andhra Pradesh)."
Reiterating his party CPI(M)'s opposition to further creation of any state, he said "our party has always been against any further division of states. At present, it is neither possible, nor desirable." He also questioned the need for setting up a second States Reorganisation Commission. "For what? There are already demands for creating 28 more states. More will come."
Maintaining that Andhra Pradesh assembly would have to unanimously adopt a resolution for a separate state, he said several political parties there have "got badly divided" on the issue, making it difficult to get such resolution passed.
