As the UPA grapples with a slew of scams, Union law minister M Veerappa Moily today said the Centre is leaving no stone unturned to fight corruption.

"The government is acting even in case of perception of sleaze," Moily said at a programme here.

Citing the recent arrest of former telcom minister A Raja and his aides by the CBI for alleged irregularities in 2G spectrum scam, the Union minister for law and justice said the UPA had gone all out to combat the evil of corruption.

In Raja's case, the government did not wait for the cases to be proved and his resignation is an example to this effect, he said.

Maharashtra's former chief minister Ashok Chavan's case is another example, he said, adding that even in Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) PJ Thomas' case, the government has nothing to hide.

Accusing the NDA of indulging in doublespeak when it came to corruption, Moily said, "The BJP government in Karnataka is the most corrupt regime in the country. The transactions were made through banks. Yet, the chief minister does not resign." he said.

Defending the CBI, Moily said it is wrong to suggest the premier investigating agency was being used as a political tool. It is impartial and objective, he claimed.

Expressing the government's determination to cut down on pendency of cases, he said, "As of now, both the state and the centre were occupying the largest space in the system, but efforts were on to reduce the number of cases so that common litigant could also get space."
