Census data reveals females outnumber males in Goa

As per the provisional figures trickling out from the Census 2011, for the first time in the last decade, females have outnumbered males in Goa which has recorded a 8.17% growth in overall population.

Director of census operations AK Wasnik told reporters today that since 2001, population of the state has been increased by 1.10lakh to 14.5lakh of which 53,463 are males and 56,592 females.

The enumeration data also revealed that overall literacy rate in the state stood at 87.40% and the same is 92.81% among males and 81.84% in females.

Among some interesting facts revealed in the figures is a case of seven people who maintained that they belonged to neither of the category of male or female.

The state, known for its picturesque beaches, has a village named Codvol in Sattari taluka which has only five inhabitants.

Shiroda village located in Ponda taluka has maximum population of 14,030 among all villages whereas northernmost Pernem has a least population on the urban front.

Margao in South Goa has the maximum population of 87,678.
