Vastrapur police arrested two youths in three days for harassing girl students.

While one of the arrested men is a mobile shop-owner, the other is a 19-year-old engineering student.

Vastrapur police said Shripal Shah, the shop-owner, got his victim Pooja Shah's mobile number after she approached him to have her phone account recharged.

While Jigar Patel, the student who is a resident of Padmawati society, Naroda managed to get the cell-phone number of Swati Patel, the girl he harassed later, via his friends who are studying in the same college as Swati.

Pooja, 20, a B Com student at JJ College, Vastrapur had her mobile account recharged at Shripal's Shree Rajendra Mobile Shop in Sardar Centre, near Vastrapur Lake last month.

On August 1, she received an SMS from an unknown number saying 'hi' and asking for her name.

From then on, Shripal, 25, a resident of Kalgi Apartment, Ratan Pol, continued to send Pooja text messages praising her beauty and asking for sexual favours, Vastrapur police said.

However, Pooja, who hails from Chanasma taluka in Patan district and lives as a paying guest near Vastrapur Lake threatened Shripal with a police complaint if he sent her any more SMSes.

But after a few days, the flow of messages resumed. Following, this Pooja lodged a complaint with Vastrapur police last Saturday.

Vastrapur police laid a trap by asking Pooja to call Shripal and fix a meeting with him. Accordingly, accompanied by police she went to meet the shop-owner at Honest Restaurant near Manav Mandir in Memnagar on Sunday evening. As soon as Shripal entered the restaurant, cops nabbed him and seized his Honda City car, three mobile phones, Rs25,000 in cash and a press card.

Police added that Shripal also owns another shop with the same name in Chinmay Tower near Vastrapur Lake. They also said that he had harassed another girl in a similar manner.

In the second case, Jigar, who is an engineering student of a college in Udaipur, Rajasthan, called Swati, 19, telling her he liked her and that she must marry him or he would make life hell for her.

However, the girl who stays in Kum Hostel on Drive-in Road and studies computer science at a college in Kadi, informed her family members, cops further said.

The family approached zone-I DCP Sandeep Singh, who guided them to Vastrapur police station. As advised by the cops, Swati fixed a meeting with Jigar at Thaltej Circle on Tuesday evening. As the teenage boy drove his car and reached the pre-decided place, policemen accompanying Swati arrested him.

Vastrapur police have registered cases of harassment against Shripal and Jigar and started further investigation.
