In a bid to check those disturbing ring tones in classrooms, the state government has banned the use of mobile phones in educational institutions. The ban has been imposed on both schools and colleges, and a resolution to this effect was passed on July 28.

According to the resolution, no school student will be allowed to carry cellphones to school, as was the earlier provision.
Even teachers, non-teaching staff and visitors will not be allowed to use mobile phones in and around classrooms. College students, however, will be permitted to carry mobile phones, but their use will be restricted to places where educational activities are not going on.

Use of mobile phone will not be allowed inside libraries, laboratories and classrooms.

"The decision to ban the use of mobile phones in schools and colleges has been made after much consideration.

The use of mobile phones is restricted on the campus as it can disturb educational activities," said a source in the education department.

However, when approached, most educational institutions were unwilling to give any comment on the issue. Parimal Trivedi,
vice-chancellor of the Gujarat University, said, "I have not been intimated about this, and neither have I received any circular about the resolution passed by the state government. I cannot say anything till I get to see it myself."
