As the deadline approaches fast, the CBI probing the Tulsi Prajapati encounter case is gearing up to file the chargesheet against some cops and politicians involved in the plotting of the staged encounter. The CBI had been handed over the investigation by the Supreme Court in April last week and given six months' time to complete the probe. Sources say the agency will file the chargesheet before Diwali.

According to sources, the agency has already moved an application before the Danta court for the transfer of the custody of the accused to the CBI court. The application was filed before a week, but the argument on the application is not yet over.

The agency has recorded the statements of four police officials before the magistrate. They are inspectors Bhavar Singh, Ranvijay Singh, Himmat Singh and DySP Sudhir Joshi of Udaipur. The sources said that the agency had recorded the statements of these police officials in connection with the illegal detention of Prajapati before his encounter.

According to the statement given by Joshi before the CID, on November 29, 2005, he had, through his sources, received information that Prajapati was staying in Bhilwada on a different name. A team headed by Joshi reached the spot, where they met the informer who identified Tulsi and then he (Tulsi) was caught. Bhavar Singh had assisted Joshi in the operation to arrest Prajapati, said the sources.

The CBI has also questioned politicians and close aides of former minister Amit Shah and also the police officers booked in connection with the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. The CBI chargesheet is likely to be explosive in nature.
