In an unexpected development, four officers of the central bureau of investigation (CBI), including IGP, P Kandaswamy, met Chief Justice of the Gujarat high court, SJ Mukhopadhya, on Tuesday afternoon.

Kandaswamy and the other officers met the Chief Justice during recess hours of the high court and had discussions with him for more than 20 minutes. After the meeting, there were speculations that the CBI officers had probably come to inform the chief justice about the ongoing investigation in the Tulsi Prapati encounter case.

The CBI is investigating the case after it was handed over to the probe agency by the Supreme Court.

However, official sources in the CBI said the meeting had nothing to do with the Tulsi Prapati case. Kandaswamy, who also heads the anti-corruption cell of the CBI, had called on the chief justice in connection with formation of special anti-corruption courts in the state as per the new policy of the Union law ministry.

The sources further said that there are two special anti-corruption courts already are functioning in the state. But the CBI team requested that two additional courts be set up in the state and had discussed its formalities with the Chief Justice.

It is pertinent to note that the CBI team had also met the Chief Justice last year and, four days after that meeting, it had arrested the then Gujarat minister of state for home, Amit Shah.
