CBI probe into Saithia rail accident: West Bengal govt yet to reply

The West Bengal government is yet to reply to the Union home ministry's letter seeking its opinion on a CBI inquiry into the July 19 Sainthia rail accident, as demanded by railway minister Mamata Banerjee.

"We have not yet written to the Centre giving the opinion of the state government," home secretary Samar Ghosh told reporters today.

Ghosh had on Saturday confirmed that the state government had received the home ministry's letter.

He also said that the home ministry had given prima facie information about the drivers of the Uttarbanga Express, but their viscera reports could only reveal the truth.

The railways, had earlier urged the home ministry for a CBI probe into the rail accident which claimed 66 lives.

Meanwhile, the CID, which made its own inquiry based on a FIR filed by a passenger of the Vananchal Express is likely to submit its report shortly.
