In a dramatic turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed Rajasthan High Court that investigators are receiving threats in Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case.

The agency also expressed fear that some politicians might be involved in threatening officials.

The CBI revelation about threats came only a few days before the agency has to present final charge sheet in the case before the court.

On Tuesday, while hearing of the habeas corpus petition filed by Amarchand, Bhanwari Devi's husband, CBI counsel Panne Singh informed the court that the CBI has almost completed investigation in this case and involvement of a few influential persons including politicians has been confirmed. "Out of 17 accused, 16 have been arrested while Indra Bishnoi is still absconding, attempts to arrest her are going on" he said in an statement before the court.

He told the court that the agency is constantly under pressure because of the involvement of high-profile persons and the witnesses are also being threatened. Singh also said in his statement that some key witnesses in the case have gone missing due to this pressure.
