The CBI filed a chargesheet in a Guwahati court on Tuesday against four accused in the murder of an officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Tarun Kumar Dutta.

Dutta was murdered outside his house in 2006 and the case was handed over to the CBI early this year. Dutta was a honest officer who had seized several drug consignments of Samsul Haque, a drug mafia operating in the North-East region.

The chargesheet was filed against the mastermind (Samsul Haque), his relative, a conspirator and another accused. “The mastermind is a dreaded name in narcotics world and is presently lodged in Guwahati jail,” a CBI official said.

The agency has requested the court to keep the investigation open as more chargesheets may be filed once the other accused are arrested.
