CBI arrests 2 Delhi persons for making counterfeit software

CBI has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in counterfeiting and piracy of Microsoft software products.

The investigating agency has recovered large volume of counterfeit or tempered software CDs worth a lakh of rupees during the searches carried out at 14 locations in Delhi, Jaipur, Dehradun and Hyderabad.

Acting on a complaint filed by Microsoft, CBI registered a case under different sections of the IPC and the Copyright Act against Kamlesh Kumar, managing director of Delhi-based KK Software Solutions and one of his accomplices, Krishan Kumar.

The case has also been registered against the software firm which is a gold-certified partner of Microsoft.

"It was alleged in the complaint that the accused person (who is a gold-certified partner of Microsoft) along with his associates was involved in high-end counterfeiting and piracy of Microsoft software products by various means.

"It was also alleged in the complaint that the suspect was obtaining the counterfeited CDs, packaging material and fake Certification of Authenticity (COAs) from China, and after obtaining the genuine product key number, by tempering the genuine products, was putting it on the fake COAs and was selling it in the market," a CBI spokesperson said here today.
