Cash crisis led to Odhav family's suicide?

Odhav police suspect that Mahendra Patel and his family, who committed suicide late on Monday night, might have taken the extreme step because of financial crisis.   

Primary investigation has revealed that Patel poisoned his two kids-Vraj and Devanshi. His wife Divya committed suicide later. Patel, too, killed himself an hour later. The bodies were found on Monday evening. However, police said that the decomposed bodies suggested that the four had died three days ago. They further said that the room in which Patel committed suicide was locked from inside.

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials and Odhav police searched the entire house for three hours to get clues in ascertaining the cause of the step taken by the family. They recovered huge bulk of share market papers apart from Rs3,000 from the house. Cops further said that Patel had 10-15 bank accounts but didn't have much money in them. A month ago, Babu Patel, Mahendra Patel's father, had sent Rs1.24 lakh which the latter had transferred to his account.

From the number of horoscopes recovered from his residence, police have inferred that Mahendra Patel was a superstitious person. Literature belonging to Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, puja rituals, other spiritual books and pamphlets in addition to medical files were also recovered from his house.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Divya and the children were cremated on Tuesday. Patel's was kept in cold storage.  Though Odhav police suspect that he might have taken the extreme step owing to financial crisis, they are trying to find out the nature of the crisis.

Prima facie, police suspect he committed suicide because of losses in share market. But they are exploring other angles too.

They also recovered two cell phones from his residence and are tracing the calls made to the number.
