An FIR was lodged against a doctor for allegedly torturing his minor maid servant, police officials said here today.

A case was registered yesterday under various sections of IPC, including attempt to murder, issuing threat, causing hurt and wrongful confinement, against Aruna Bharti, anaesthetist at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), they said. She is absconding.

Besides, Bharti had also been booked under Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act and Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act), police said. On October 26, volunteers of Child Line rescued 11-year-old Renu from Bharti's house.

The girl, who borne serious injury marks on her body, alleged that she was sold by her uncle for merely Rs1,000 and was later tortured by the doctor. The Child Welfare Committee had asked the district police to lodge a case against the doctor.

"After the report was lodged, a raid were carried out at doctor's residence on SGPGI campus, but she was not found there," a senior police officer said.

The labour department had also slapped a fine of Rs20,000 on the doctor for employing a child below 14 years of age, along with an additional fine of similar amount for violating human rights.
