Anti-corruption activists today held a candlelight vigil here to protest against the growing corruption in the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

The activists, who had gathered under the banner of J-K RTI Movement, demanded punishment to the corrupt ministers, bureaucrats and government officials.

"The corrupt minister and officials should be booked under the Public Safety Act. All the cases of corruption should be investigated. Some people have bought houses and mansions in Dubai and other places. It should be probed from where from they got this money," RTI activist Muzaffar Bhat said.

Awami National Conference vice-president Muzaffar Shah also participated in the candlelight vigil.

The speakers at the protests demanded stern action against the corrupt officials, saying they have made the lives of the poor people miserable.

Kalpana Tickoo, a Delhi-based Kashmiri who also attended the protest, said we have to look within ourselves to weed out corruption.

"Giving bribes and taking bribes are both equally wrong. We have to make sure we start it with ourselves and stop giving bribes," she said.
