A Canadian company today evinced interest in setting up a modern solar-powered clean drinking water project in Punjab, especially in the Malwa belt to treat saline water.

Quest Water Solutions (QWS), an alternative water supply company, would soon establish a demonstration project in one
of the saline-prone villages of the Muktsar district in the
cotton belt, which has high level of salinity, an official
release said here.

Making a presentation before chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, its Director of International Business Development, Jennifer Beresford and Gurdev Gill of the Indo Canadian Friendship Society apprised him of the viability and the modalities involved in the project.

This project, if approved, would be completed in partnership with the Indo-Canadian Friendship Society, a registered charitable society in Canada. The society has undertaken 14 water supply and integrated comprehensive infrastructure projects in the region in collaboration with the state government.

Using the latest technology combined with solar or wind power, drinking water would be provided at 10.35 paisa per litre, Beresford said.
