In a bid to sensitise people over river pollution and to ascertain the status of Gomti River, a Gomti-Ganga Yatra would be launched from Pilibhit on March 27.

"A campaign is being launched to lessen pollution in Gomti River and to restore its natural form and flow. It will be launched from Pilibhit, from where it originates, on March 27," coordinator of the yatra Narendra Malhotra said.

He said the yatra would cover 960km and would culminate at Markandeshwar where Gomti meets Ganga River.

"During this campaign we will not only sensitise people but will also carry out other activities like cleaning the river, planting saplings alongside its bed," said Brijendra, secretary of Lok Bharati, the organisation coordinating the event.

Malhotra said that during the campaign a status report of the river would be prepared and submitted to the government.
