Amid reports that the CAG had overruled its own official on 2G loss calculation, Congress today said if the government auditor had the slightest doubt about its findings, it should revise the same.

"We are not here to debunk the figures. But certainly, if the figures are notional it deserves to have a very serious look and it behoves for an institution like the CAG to itself revise it estimates if it has the slightest doubt about it," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

He said the Congress had never accepted anything remotely near Rs1.76 lakh crore and was ready to accept anything which is actual, real and based on some research.

"I can only say whatever result comes from a constitutional body should be based on solid data, facts, verifiable details," Singhvi said.

"If there are legitimate doubts in the organisation itself it does behove the organisation to reconsider its own data and there is no need for any external directive on it," he said reacting to reports of differences within the CAG in arriving at the Rs1.76 lakh crore presumptive loss due to alleged irregularities in allocation of 2G spectrum. Singhvi was reacting to reports quoting reply to an RTI query which revealed that Director General Audit (Post and Telecommunications) R P Singh had said that the issue of Unified Access Service (UAS) licences and allotment of 2G spectrum caused a loss of Rs2,645 crore, far lower than the CAG final report's presumptive loss of massive Rs1.76 lakh crore. Singh retired a few days back.

Reports had it that the documents accessed by the RTI showed that the lead 2G auditor had pegged the losses at Rs 2,645 crore.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the 2G scam has decided to ask Singh to appear before it.
