Burglars strike at Ahmedabad cop’s house, twice!

In what is perhaps a mockery of city policing, an IPS officer's house was burgled twice in a span of just five days.

In the first attempt the burglars returned empty handed but they kept up their efforts and got lucky in their second shot. They made away with various antiques, the value of which is pegged at around Rs53,000.

IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's flat no-2 at Jalvihar society behind HL Commerce College in Navrangpura area was burgled between November 8 and 9.

The house was vacant when the incident happened. Raju Damor, a domestic help for the officer, lodged a case with the police on November 9.

According to Navrangpura police inspector PM Parmar the house mostly remains unoccupied.

"It is sometimes used by Bhatt's mother. The thieves took away some antiques from the officer's house," said Parmar.

According to police, the burglars barged into the house and broke the a safe where two silver glasses worth Rs10,000 each, a silver tray worth Rs22,000 and a silver box worth Rs14,000 were kept among other things. The Navrangpura police did not give details about the earlier burglary that took place at the house five days ago.

They just said that it was a minor incident and the thieves could not lay their hands on anything. At present Bhatt is posted at a police training institute in Junagadh.

If sources are to be believed, he has been sidelined for the last many years for his alleged role in some criminal offences as well as in a controversy related to Sabarmati jail.
