A Delhi court today remanded Vivek Singh, son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader from Uttar Pradesh, to 14 days judicial custody for allegedly opening fire in a South Delhi cafe over a minor altercation with its staff yesterday.

Metropolitan magistrate Geetanjali Goel sent Vivek, son of BSP leader Chandraveer Singh, to Tihar jail till January 6, 2010 as the police did not seek his custodial interrogation after the accused handed over the licensed gun used in the alleged firing to authorities.

Vivek, 27, had allegedly fired from his pistol following an altercation with the staff of the Mocha resto-bar in Nehru Place around 11.45am yesterday.

He had purportedly gone to the bar to recover a handbag of his sister which was lost the night before when they were dining there.

He fled the spot after the firing incident, but surrendered to police at around 7.30pm and was arrested. He was accompanied by his father Chandraveer when he surrendered before police.
