Caught in a tangle over Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s self-inflicted goal on the issue of denotifying government land to favour his sons, BJP is finding itself in a bind particularly after the RSS top brass deciding to throw its weight behind the beleagured chief minister.

If Sangh sources are to be believed, RSS has strongly pitched for Yeddyurappa’s continuation.

What RSS was thinking over the Karnataka controversy came to be known after a team of its top functionaries met BJP president Nitin Gadkari late on Tuesday evening.

RSS leaders Suresh Soni and Sanjay Joshi told Gadkari that its opinion was that Yeddyurappa should not be disturbed.

Yeddyurappa publicly admitted on Tuesday that by denotifying the land in favour of his family members he had only followed the precedent set up by his predecessors. But the BJP-RSS combine seems to find nothing wrong in it.

“Both RSS and Gadkari are satisfied with the explanation given by the chief minister. There is no doubt in his continuing on the top post unless his government is toppled,” a BJP leader said.

There is a feeling within the party that although Yeddyurappa enjoys good political clout in the state, much has been left to be desired on the administration front. The controversies at the Centre and BJP’s tirade against the UPA government on corruption related issues has certainly given a lease of life to him.

This was clearly indicated by the RSS leaders who met Gadkari. Both sides strongly felt that dragging Yeddyurappa in the controversy was the Congress’s ploy to divert focus from the BJP’s anti-corruption tirade against the UPA government on various scams.
